The Chinese Crested was designed as a bed warmer, comforter and
companion. It is completely in tune with human social cues
and would love to spend each and every moment cuddling with its owner.
The Chinese Crested is a devoted, happy little prancing
dog. They are not overly demonstrative with strangers and
they tend to develop an undying devotion to one family
member. They are not a yappy dog but do make fantastic
alert alarms should strangers approach.
However, this breed is NOT for everyone, as they
deal with isolation very poorly. Partly due to owners
being inclined to baby what appears to be so fragile of a
dog. This
compounded with the Chinese Crested's natural tendencies can
produce a neurotically clingy and possessive
Crested.
In any case, if you intend to own a Chinese Crested, you
MUST be prepared for an intense relationship all the time.
Owning a Crested is like having a little stalker as it
seeks attention constantly. A second dog for companionship
can help but I wouldn't count on it!!
Having said all of this, the breed is so athletic with
remarkable speed and
socially tuned that it makes for a great little obedience
and agility dog. They are also naturally affectionate
making them well suited as therapy dogs.
Their level of exercise is uncomplicated. They would
prefer a daily walk and a chance to run but can usually
have its needs met with indoor play. This makes the
Chinese Crested well suited to apartment life.
If you love attention and can deal with
the high demands 24/7 of a little dog that requires a
lot of grooming and hates the cold weather, then the
Crested may be just the breed for you. This gay,
intelligent, loveable, devoted little toy dog is gaining a
large following.
Obviously the Chinese Crested is my breed
of choice !!
Owning a Crested should be a delight and a joy ...
make sure you own an authentic Chinese Crested !!
